CoVid-19 Precautions

on

UPDATED AS OF MARCH 4, 2020

As everyone is aware, there is great concern regarding CoVid-19.  Being involved in sport, we come in contact with a large number of athletes and bodily fluids from sweat to spit.  What is known about the virus is that the incubation period can be up to 14 days.  Depending upon the surface and environmental conditions, the virus can live outside of the body for a few hours to several days.

In order to protect ourselves and others, consider the following protocols:
– After the walkout and introductions, either bump fists or elbows the players and coaches.  Avoid shaking hands with anyone.
– Avoid spitting on the ground.  In the course of a match, a player may slide through it.
– Cough into your elbow.
– Do not share whistles.
– Wipe down the handles of flags with an alcohol based rub or wash with soap and water.
– Wash your hands with soap and water or an alcohol based rub for at least 20 seconds.  That is the time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice.
– Stay at least 6 feet from anyone who is coughing.
– Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
– If you are feverish, contact your assignor and do not officiate, mentor, or instruct.  STAY HOME.

If you have questions or concerns regarding CoVid-19, contact your medical provider or your county health department.
