Cal North Referees Appointed Steinbrecher Cup Final

on

CNRA is pleased to announce the appointment of two Cal North referees to the Hank Steinbrecher Cup final: Referee Robert Vincze and Assistant Referee Bhavik Dutt.

The Hank Steinbrecher Cup is an all-champions tournament that was started in 2013, and is a competition between the reigning National Amateur Cup champion, the NPSL champion, the USL 2 champion and the previous year’s Steinbrecher champion.

This year’s event was hosted in Arizona on June 3-4, and featured top referees who regularly work in the amateur and professional game. These referees were joined by U.S. Soccer’s Director of Referee Development Rick Eddy, as well as National Referee Coach Richard Heron. Hank Steinbrecher, himself, even made an appearance to meet with the referee team, watch the games, and present the medals after the final.

“It was an honor to be selected by U.S. Soccer to represent CalNorth at the Steinbrecher tournament. Having the ability to receive mentorship in person on some highly competitive games was definitely something I am grateful for. It was a great experience from the hospitality to all the new friendships and memories that were made.” – Bhavik Dutt

“I enjoyed the experience and am thankful for the valuable feedback received at the event from Rick and Richard. The final game was exciting, with two good teams rostering collegiate and ex professional players. The winner of the competition came back from a 2 goal halftime deficit, scoring the 4-4 equalizer in the 91st minute to send the game into extra time, then to kicks from the mark. Before the game, Hank shared ‘Your whistle is your baton and this game is your orchestra. Conduct it for all to enjoy.’ His words are a reminder of the responsibility and privilege we carry as referees and that it is our duty to ensure that the game is conducted in a fair and enjoyable manner for everyone involved.” – Robert Vincze

Congrats to both Robert and Bhavik!
